Look dewdrop fresh

Summer can make your skin look dull and if your make-up isn't right for the weather it can turn out to be either a disaster or leave you looking too made-up. Renowned make-up artist Vidya Tikari advises on how to have that fresh, glowing skin this summer.
Question: My skin type is normal. I want to know how to get my make-up base right so that my skin has just the right glow without seeming too made up, particularly during the summer months. - Farzana
Vidya Tikari: In the summer months, you need to stay away from the rich, heavy foundations the winter months called for. Summer make-up is a lot lighter and the textures more translucent as opposed to creamy. Even normal skin-neither dry nor oily-can look oily in summers due to the increased activity of the sebaceous glands. Mineral bases with SPF in powders, compacts or in liquid form is best for this season and you can pick one depending on the coverage you require. For instance, the MAC Mineralize Foundation range has SPF 15 and is well suited to give added protection from the harsh summer sun. However, don't forget to apply a good quality primer before you put on the base as it will not only smoothen out the skin, but also allow the base to sit well. However, make sure the mineral base you choose does not have additives like talcum powder as these will cake up your make-up after a while. A liquid mineral base also works in lending a dewdrop fresh look to your face. Its oil-free formula provides a thin, even coverage preventing excessive sweating.
Since you are most likely going to put up your hair in a ponytail or a bun, remember to extend your base to cover your earlobes and the back of your neck too. While it is best to keep the day look minimal, an evening/night party might require more coverage. A compact works wonders in such a situation.
